The global regulatory landscape for cryptocurrency has reached an inflection point in 2026. Major jurisdictions are moving from exploratory frameworks to concrete, enforceable regulations.

The EU's MiCA regulation Phase 2 has gone into full effect, creating the world's most comprehensive crypto regulatory framework. CASP (Crypto-Asset Service Provider) licensing is now mandatory, with strict capital requirements and consumer protection measures.

In the US, the bipartisan stablecoin bill has finally passed, providing regulatory clarity for dollar-pegged tokens. Meanwhile, the SEC and CFTC continue jurisdictional disputes over spot market oversight.

Asia presents a mixed picture. Japan and Singapore lead with progressive frameworks, while China maintains its ban. Hong Kong has emerged as a significant crypto hub with its new licensing regime.
